ABOUT THE BOOK

It’s difficult to find a husband in Regency England when you’re a young lady with only half a soul.

Ever since she was cursed by a faerie, Theodora Ettings has had no sense of fear or embarrassment – a condition which makes her prone to accidental scandal. Dora hopes to be a quiet, sensible wallflower during the London Season – but when the strange, handsome and utterly uncouth Lord Sorcier discovers her condition, she is instead drawn into dangerous and peculiar faerie affairs.

If Dora’s reputation can survive both her curse and her sudden connection with the least-liked man in all of high society, then she may yet reclaim her normal place in the world. . . but the longer Dora spends with Elias Wilder, the more she begins to suspect that one may indeed fall in love, even with only half a soul. REVIEW

Clever, whimsical, and sweet!  These are the words I would use to describe Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater.  I am a huge fan of Jane Austen, and this book gives me Austen vibes.  We meet Dora, her cousin Vanessa and of course her Aunt at the start of the story, I instantly connected with Dora and Vanessa but with Dora’s Aunt, which was an instant dislike that followed throughout the story.

Atwater has created wonderful characters, they are all well-filled out.  There are characters to love, dislike, and root for.  The plot kept going, and I didn’t find any downs in the story.  I also appreciate Atwater’s world-building, taking Regency England and adding a taste of fantasy, without going over the top was wonderful.

Without giving too much away, Half a Soul is a perfect mixture of romance and fairytale with the expected happily ever after. My only issue and why I didn’t give it a perfect 5, I found the ending very quick, I would like to have seen a bit more in the way of wedding or Dora and Elias getting on with married life. I am looking forward to book 2.

Until next time!
